I read about the prefs:root options here. I like the option of having a Bluetooth icon on my springboard. I didn’t want to pay €0,79 yet, so I tried a different way: I put a redirection to prefs:root=General&path=Bluetooth in a webpage. The page looks like this:

I liked how this was working, so I continued with Airplane Mode, which I turn on at night. This page looks like:

I’m missing an option here! I found that this might be related to the fact my laptop is joined to my corporate domain. I did some comparison with a none-domain virtual machine and found that the following regkey is related:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AutoAdminLogon

I changed it to 1 and reopened the User Accounts applet:

This showed the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. option.

Checking and unchecking this option prompted me for my credentials:

I rebooted to verify all was okay (it was!)

My client’s setup is:

• ISA 2004 on Windows Server 2003
• Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008

Initially this didn’t work. My colleague pointed out that a IIS setting might be required.

I found out the following setting is needed:

The whole Exchange 2007 installation is scripted, so I wanted to script this as well (using APPCMD):

APPCMD isn’t in the path:

cd /d %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\inetsrv

Then you have to unlock the setting for the owa virtual folder:

appcmd.exe UNLOCK CONFIG /section:system.webServer/security/authentication/basicAuthentication

Finally we can change the setting:

appcmd.exe SET CONFIG “Default Web Site/owa” /section:system.webServer/security/authentication/basicAuthentication /defaultLogonDomain:CONTOSO

I first installed Microsoft Update by going to the Microsoft Update web site. I found out that the following files were installed:

• c:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\muweb.inf
• c:\WINDOWS\system32\muweb.dll

I (reversed to my snapshot and) copied the above files and registered the dll

• regsvr32 c:\WINDOWS\system32\muweb.dll

Now all updates (including things as Silverlight) were installed automatically! (using the right policies et cetera)

I created the following (Altiris) script job:

rem Install Microsoft Update (on Windows Server 2003)
set installpath=\\%DSSERVER%\Express\SRC\Microsoft\WSUS\WU
copy /Y “%installpath%\muweb.dll” “%SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\”
copy /Y “%installpath%\muweb.inf” “%SystemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files”
REGSVR32 /s “%SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\muweb.dll”

STOP: 0x0000009F  = DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

appeared. When I figured out what the “problem” was (active VPN connections), the was no resolution available and I was too lazy to create a support case at the Microsoft support site. Until now. I forgot once more to use the workaround (disconnect any active VPN connections) and got another BSOD. So I decided to create a free Technet plus support case. I first googled to make sure there wasn’t already a resolution available. I was pleasantly surprised to see there was!

The problem is still there . The crash analysis points to rasl2tp as faulting module. It looks like I have to submit a support case after all…

The problem only exists on my home laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate x86). The fix seemed to have worked on my work laptop, on which I mostly use VPN connections. I’m no longer investigating…
